Addressing the Issue at Lafayette College

The above image reflects the steps that ought to be taken before resorting to the disposal of food waste in a landfill (“Food Recovery Hierarchy”, 2017). This site will focus on source reduction, feeding hungry people, and composting, since they are the more likely to be successful in reducing Lafayette’s food waste in the near future. Bon Appetit estimated that they divert 40% of food waste from landfills, but that still leaves the majority going to landfills (“Lafayette Dining Service’s Sustainable Practices”, 2017). This page will elaborate on the many ways in which Lafayette students can work to further reduce food waste pileup in landfills.
