Rush, one of my all-time favorite rock bands, is playing at the Allentown Fair on August 31.
I didn’t start listening to them until my 20s, when they were already past their 70s/80s heyday, but once I did I didn’t waste time. I bought every album I could get my hands on and spent hours listening to epic clashes between greek gods (“Cygnus X-1 Book II”), a subversive musician undermining a totalitarian state (“2112”), evolution (“Natural Science”), and the transformation of philosophy into dogmatism (“Armor and Sword”). And, of course, there’s the classics that everyone knows: “Tom Sawyer”, “Free Will”, “Working Man” … the list goes on and on.
I had a chance to see them in Scranton a few years ago, and it was a fantastic show. I’ve been hoping to see them again ever since but job and family always colluded to keep me from doing so. Not so any more — I’ll be there at the show, and honestly, I can’t wait (well, I actually I can wait, given the amount of web development and application work that needs to be done between now and then, but you get the idea).
They’ll be playing playing the album Moving Pictures in its entirety, which includes the classics “Tom Sawyer” and “Red Barchetta” as well as fan favorites like “The Camera Eye”. It should be fantastic.
