HighEdWeb is the annual conference of the Higher Education Web Professionals. The conference is often marketing centric, with sessions dedicated to promoting colleges through the Web and social media.
I’ve been going on and off for the last several years, with the last time having been 2011 in Austin. I don’t know if it was the head cold I was recovering from or the conference itself, but I found the Austin show to be lackluster. That certainly wasn’t the case in 2013; of the 10 or so presentations I went to, only two were so-so. The rest were immediately relevant to my day-to-day work.
The conference didn’t have an official theme, but the informal one was clearly responsive web design (RWD). Every other presentation seemed to deal with the issues and challenges surrounding mobile-first, responsive strategies.
I came back with dozens of ideas that I want to try out, as well as a respectable list of books to read and web sites to explore. I’ve chronicled those online:
The conference will be held in Portland, OR in 2014 and will return to Milwaukee, WI in 2015.
