I have always had an appreciation for cultures all around the world. Having been raised on the Jersey Shore with a strong Middle Eastern presence in the house, seeing different cultures immersed fascinates me and reminds me of home. My family and I have spent many occasions traveling to several countries such as Italy, Lebanon, Armenia, and France, but I have never travelled to the continent of Africa, nor have I ever travelled without my family before LIME.

At Lafayette College, I spend the majority of my time volunteering at the local elementary school, tutoring and mentoring the young students of Easton, PA. I love spending time with children and students; I hope my career in the future involves helping others and making a difference in the world.

Being a LIME Mentor is an amazing opportunity to experience a part of the world I would never have had the chance to otherwise, but most importantly to make new friendships with passionate and inspirational students.

Albert

Albert

My name is Albert Zanarimanana. I’m from Port-Bergé, Madagascar. I’m eighteen going on nineteen years old, I was born on 18th August, 1997. I have two brothers and two sisters, and I’m the oldest. I’d like to be a role model for them, and that means I’m going to try something good in my life and I want all of my siblings to follow what I do.

I really like education, to learn anything. Even if somebody calls me crazy for it, I don’t care as I spend much of my time on it, because I’m an ambitious person and I want to have a good job in my future life. I think that’s enough.

Mahaliana

Mahaliana

I am Rasoloarijaona Mahaliana, I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.  I am fond of reading novels and magazines; I also like dancing and singing.   My favorite singer is Bruno Mars and I like playing guitar on my free time. I like watching drama films and Manga on the weekends as well. I would describe myself as being shy but my neighbors don’t share the same point of view. They say that I am talkative and funny. I am always cheerful when I am with them; I also like teasing them; that may explain why they think I am funny.

Ny Aina

Ny Aina

RAJAONARIVELO Rija Ny Aina is a girl who was born on March 9, 2000. She is often a shy girl. At first everyone thinks that, but once they know her better, they know she’s very talkative. She loves telling funny stories. Seeing others being happy really makes her happy. She is short. She has black hair. Her dream is to become an architect and an author. She really enjoys reading books, especially books about romance and adventure. She likes wearing boots. Her favorite colors are black and purple. She listens to music everyday, her favorite kind is pop rock. She is open-minded and she has the ability to understand others easily. Being a member of LIME is a great opportunity for her. She is glad to know all these fabulous people. She’ll miss them and will work hard and go to the U.S.

Olive

Olive

I am Olive. I live in Ambohitrimanjaka. It is around 15km from Antananarivo, the capital. I study at Andohalo high school. I am 17 years old. I have one older sister and one older brother which makes me the youngest in my family. In my free time I like cooking at home and playing basketball with my brother. My favorite subjects at school are science and English. Not only do I love languages, but I also like studying sciences like biology because I want to be a surgeon.

Justin

Justin

My nationality is Malagasy. I was born in Port-Bergé in 1997 and that is where I live. I have three sisters and one brother and I am the youngest. When I was a little boy I liked to be with my dad. My dad wanted me to be intelligent so he taught me the story of Madagascar, the news he heard from the radio and television, Malagasy traditions, and the alphabet. I tried to ask him how to become famous like someone on the radio. I repeated the question and then he sent me to school when I was seven. When I came to the school, a teacher asked me, “where did you study before you came here?” I replied that my dad taught me in our house. The first time I went to school I already knew the alphabet because my Dad taught me it before. Unfortunately, there is no English in our school program so I didn’t speak English or French, just Malagasy. At this time, I would really like to speak more foreign languages like English and French. I am no longer discouraged because there is no problem that has no solution. My dad is my hero because he taught me everything. He wants me to be a journalist and to have a lot of knowledge about the world. I want to study abroad all over the world.

Hyacinth

Hyacinth

My name is Ramanampamonsy Hyacinth, I was born on 18th July 1994 in Antananarivo Befelatanana. I’m a student at the Lycée Private School Lovasoa in Port-Bergé. In my house, we have 7 people, like my mom, my dad, and one of my two sisters is married and has a baby. In addition to that, we have three cats.

Someone else may know how to describe me better, but I can try to describe myself like someone else might describe me. So, I’ll tell my good and my bad, or the best and worst about myself. I like to smoke cigarettes, even though I know that they are bad for my health and nervous system. I’m lazy, and sometimes a little selfish. I can’t help that I love many girls, because love is natural. I smile to many people in my life and I’m an easy going boy, I’m not easily angered. I’m immodest sometimes because I play basketball almost every day and I’m never satisfied even though I play in the morning and in the afternoon. I’m sociable because I love everybody, even my enemies.

Lindo

Lindo

My beautiful name is Lindo. I will be 20 years old next July. I have only one sister, and her name is Olivia. I was born in Befandriana North, Madagascar. Usually, I speak loudly, but can be quiet when I need to be. I practice sports, especially basketball and soccer, but I spend most of my time reading and practicing other languages, especially English. The reason why I want to improve my English is because I know it will be very useful in the future, and I want to be an ambassador. One of my favorite quotes is, “the teacher already opened the door but I must enter by myself.” I hope after studying with LIME, I will be able to continue my studies once they leave.

Patrick

Patrick

I’m twenty-two years old. My birthday is July 16th, 1993. I was born in Antananarivo. I have three sisters and six brothers. We have two dogs, Paton and Lucky. In my spare time, I like playing soccer, reading romantic books, and hanging out with friends. I’m hardworking, especially when doing my homework. I don’t like to beat around the bush when I say something, so I speak directly. I’m very easy-going and amusing, but very soft-spoken in large crowds. I like to counsel people but sometimes I get frustrated. I am very afraid of being embarrassed when many people are around. I have curly hair, a short neck, and bumpy face like an iguana. My feet are rough and worn. My eyes are a hazel brown color and they are small. My nose is symmetrical. I smell fresh like the wind from a refrigerator. My breath smells like toothpaste. Sometimes my feet smell like socks that have been worn all day long. My face feels like a crocodile’s skin if you touch it but my body feels very soft. I have very strong, sharp nails with sweaty palms and sometimes they are slippery too! My toenails are thick and sharp like razors. So, I think that’s all for what I can describe about myself.

Julien

Julien

My name is Ramananjato Tokiniaina Julien, but people call me Julien. I was born on January 26th, 1999 in Antananarivo, Madagascar. I live with my grandmother and my brother. I have two brothers, one sister, and a twin. My favorite subjects are biology and English. I really like biology. I want to study in America. This is the reason I study very hard to learn English. I want to become a doctor. If one day I am a doctor, I will help all the poor people in the hospital.
