Smart Home

The implemented smart home lighting system seeks to reduce energy consumption while providing an increased level of comfort by automating brightness control of a room.

The system targets light control by allowing the user to set brightness levels. The source of the light is controlled by the system which attempts to provide as much brightness from natural lighting by controlling the shades. Two separate modules are used in the design. One module is connected to the shades, and is used to calibrate the motors for the shades/windows as well as provide manual, motorized control of the shades. The other module is the main light controller which can be used to set brightness levels for the room. It can also be used to manually adjust the shades and electrical lighting of the room. All communication between the two modules occurs using WiFi, hosted by an ad-hoc network.
