The profiles of the 2016 LIME team of Lafayette students who will travel to Madagascar

Rebecca Wai

My story

Major: Policy Studies and Economics

From: Singapore

Hailing from a country that is a self-described “melting pot of cultures”, Rebecca (or Becky, as most friends call her) is unabashedly interested in cultures from all continents. Her love for animals can be seen in her three adopted cats and a month’s volunteer work at a panda research centre in Sichuan, China.

Having done a diploma in Mass Communication and a short stint in Channel NewsAsia, a regional news channel based in Singapore, her ideal job was being a foreign correspondent for a publication like The New York Times. However, she has been quite smitten with academia at Lafayette and is looking to go into research about economic development in Southeast or East Asian countries. Either way, she hopes to bring important issues to light in her job.

She is incredibly excited to be part of the amazing LIME team, having made great friends with Malagasy and other international students. She is very appreciative of all the guidance Lafayette offers to international students and hopes she can help even more through LIME. Everyone deserves a top-notch education; she just hopes she can make it easier for some to get it.

Molly Leech

Untitled

Major: Anthropology & Sociology ’17

Minor: Psychology

From: Tinton Falls, NJ

At the age of 8, Molly discussed her plan to photograph the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, but made sure to mention that she had to attend college first. While at Lafayette, Molly has enjoyed her time as a member of the Spring 2014 – Fall 2014 Technology Clinic team, where she helped revitalize and develop a curriculum for a local high school greenhouse program. She has also had the pleasure of working as an intern archivist in the library’s Special Collections, as a mentor and tutor in the College Writing Program, and as an Excel Scholar in the Anthropology department.

Now, Molly is excited to take her adventures in mentorship and civic duty further by participating in LIME. She has a hunger to see the world and experience different cultures, and a passion for connecting and sharing with others. In addition, Molly is an avid photographer, reader, nature lover, and hiker.
