Portfolio Two:
For this assignment Candace and I examined a court case in which Sony was sued regarding a william Faulkner line used in the film “Midnight in paris”. The case was reasonably straight forward but was still important in regards to both plagiarism and fair use in film.
Candace and I worked well on this project. We decided that the most economic way to complete the paper was to divide and conquer playing to each of our strengths. As a FAMS major I am well versed in the legal challenges facing films and filmmakers in addition to the practices in the film industry in regards to screen writing and scripting dialogue. Because of this I focused on the summary of the case, translating and breaking down the legal jargon and film production process in order to make the case more accessible and easier to understand.
Portfolio One
For this Assignment I sought to demonstrate how the world of Film in particular would have been affected had copyright Laws existed to protect the work rather than the author. Copyright laws currently exist to protect the authors from plagiarism, but had they evolved to protect the original content of the work, they would have accomplished the same goal of protecting against plagiarism however with the added benefit of protecting the work from the author as well.
