Portfolio 3:
Recently, I have found myself really interested in the company Amazon. After learning about the topic for Portfolio three, I decided to look more into Amazon and its connection to electronic reading. I found a great deal of information on the subject so I decided to focus my paper on the growth of the electronic reading industry. For my audio portion, I simply read my paper in a class lecture style. I thought it would be interesting to read it almost like a newspaper article so the listener could really understand and see the positives and negatives associated with electronic reading and the growing success of Amazon.

Throughout the semester, copyright has still continued to confuse me. Honestly, I go back and forth between being a copyright “optimist” and a copyright “pessimist”. I think part of the problem is because of society is much different now then it was when many of the copyright laws were written. For my paper, I wanted to choose an issue that regarded our growing technology. I wanted to look into this because I think it is important to understand how technology really changes the playing field of many of the copyright laws. By comparing the newest versions of technology with Goldstein’s knowledge of copyright laws, I was able to grasp a better understand of the complicity behind copyright laws. For my blog post, I chose my posts that focus more on the different outcomes of copyright laws because I wanted to show how no case or situation is similar.
Portfolio 1:
For my first portfolio, I decided to look into the connection between the economy and electronic readers. I started with the topic of how electronic readers would eventually harm the economy. However, my essay actually changed a great deal from my original idea because I realized I did not actually understand how copyright laws affected electronic books. In order to full understand the connection of copyright and electronic reading, I had to do a lot of research on how e-books are affected by copyright laws. This led me to focus my portfolio on how copyright laws are hurting the growth of e-books and individual thinking. Then, I connected that information with how e-books affect the economy. Once I fully understood the connection between copyright laws and e-books, it was easy to direct my essay more towards an economic side. For my blog post, I decided to pick the three post most focused on the economic side of books. I focused more on the economics because I was not able to pull in as much of the economic side as I wanted in my paper, therefore I thought the blog post would be a great way to show my interest while still connecting to overall portfolio idea. By the time I finished my portfolio, I realized my goal changed to figuring out how the differences in new technology and old laws would eventually affect our struggling economy.
