There are many choices that we have made about labor & competitiveness that have determined where we are today. Some sound like glib assertions, and some are. Balancing the trade-offs is difficult, and we must wonder whether we’ve chosen well: losing manufacturing jobs and gaining service-sector focus. The reporting, when read carefully, doesn’t glorify either option for the worker.
