“Politicians who push for an EU exit typically envisage retaining access to the single market, akin to the arrangements Norway or Switzerland have” but such countries “have to accept rules over which they have no say, including in key sectors like financial services, and still contribute to the EU budget.

The United States of Europe?  “The euro-zone crisis has led many countries that use the single currency to believe they need closer political and fiscal integration to address the region’s debt crisis”.
