  1. Olivia, well done! I like how you showed that the price for the futuristic homes was not too great, showing the decrease in values of homes during this time-frame. I really enjoyed that you explained the changing roles of the family because men often left their families if they could not provide for them. I did not know that this happened during this time, and I think it is really interesting to see how the futuristic visions correlate so well with societal context during the Great Depression. You did a great job explaining how the future homes will bring about a technological fix. The only suggestion that I have is that your audio and pictures seemed to be a little off, and sometimes you paused for a little too long. I also could sometimes hear background noises (like flipping pages). Overall, I really enjoyed this slidecast, and I think you made very good connections with the class – keep up the good work for the final project!

  2. Olivia,

To begin, I like your topic! It’s very creative. I liked how you set the context with the Great Depression. Furthermore, I liked how you looked at gender and racial differences for home ownership. I think you had great connections back to class, such as discussing the technological fix. It was great how you talked about the importance of the fair itself and it’s connection to the future, as well as the houses it showed off. One of my suggestions not content based but logistically in setting up your presentation. You may want to consider recording yourself in smaller sections, it gives you time to catch your breath and make sure you’re lined up with the slides. Also, I would provide the sources you used! I think you could use more varied sources, but the ones you used were all good! Overall, I really enjoyed the presentation and it was very informative.

  3. Hi Olivia, I thought your slidecast was extremely well done, and I really enjoyed learning about the futuristic houses of the 1930s. You really were able to put this concept into the context of the time by focusing on the different characteristics of the Great Depression. I especially liked how you added in the gender and race dimensions. I didn’t realize that during the Great Depression many men left their wives or that housing loans were biased towards whites to prevent minorities from living at the same standards as whites. I also liked how you were able to connect this back to our class discussions, such as mentioning Kranzberg’s Second Law, invention is the mother of necessity. The only thing I would fix for your next slidecast is making sure what you are talking about is in line with the picture you are showing. It will make your slidecast easier to follow and understand. Overall though really nice work!
