Rho DKE was recently informed that they have earned a Gold accreditation rating. This is the first ever Gold accreditation rating that has ever been issued since the start of the accreditation program at Lafayette. Congratulations to last years President Jimmy Cochran on his fantastic term. Along with the entire Rho chapter, as this could not have been done without all of them.

 

This Summer, Jeff Michelson ’17 is working as a summer analyst at a hedge fund in New York City. Focusing on small cap, growth equities, Jeff is responsible for performing market research which is used in the funds investment decisions. In addition to building financial models, Jeff communicates with companies management teams in order to better understand the company. Upon completion of his research, Jeff provides a Portfolio Manager with an investment recommendation. Aside from his research responsibilities, Jeff has been particularly excited by the opportunity to attend various IPO roadshows.

Jeff, who is an economics major at Lafayette, attributes much of this summer’s success to the skills that he developed in Professor Bukics’ Financial Theory course. “All of the analytical skills emphasized in her course helped to make the transition as smooth as possible.”

This summer Brother Nicholas DiNino ’15 is interning with Exelis, a military contractor based in Clifton, NJ.

DiNino is working in the Electronic Warfare Systems department, where he has been given two main tasks. His primary assignment is to create and run tests for digital and analog circuit boards that make up a module for one of Exelis’ electronic warfare systems. Once these units are shipped, they will help defend the United States Armed Forces’ B-52 bombers against Radio Frequency (RF) threats in combat missions.

DiNino’s secondary responsibility is to support data collection for a transmitter in an RF Testing Chamber. Nick is also manipulating the data so that it can be easily analyzed by Exelis’ higher level engineers and shown to the customer.

When he is not working on these two projects, DiNino supports the other Systems Engineers in his department, and ensures he is learning the most he can from his summer experience. He is grateful to learn from professional engineers in the field, some of whom have over thirty years of experience at Exelis alone.

DiNino is an Electrical and Computer Engineering major and a Mathematics minor at Lafayette College. He is also the president of the Gamma Psi chapter of Eta Kappa Nu, the national Electrical and Computer Engineering honor society.

This summer Brother Kevin Fasano ’15 is working as an EXCEL Scholar at Lafayette College with Professor Joshua Smith.  As a Mechanical Engineering major, this opportunity has allowed Kevin to apply his technical skills as well as for him to gain insight into the world of academia.

Fasano is currently researching lymphedema, a condition in which an individual’s extremities become filled with interstitial fluid, often hindering motion and leading to other medical complications.

Throughout his research, Fasano has been investigating the literature to develop appropriate material models describing skin and subcutaneous tissue. Furthermore, Fasano applies these material models to a Finite Element model he developed and generates computer simulations which analyze the effectiveness of various treatment methodologies.

Fasano is the former Vice President of DKE, and will begin his second semester as Treasurer in the fall.

This summer Brother Wiley Houldin ’15 is working for AIG as a Commercial Underwriter in the Environmental Division in Boston, MA. Working with the other underwriters, Wiley helps evaluate the environmental risks of potential sites and works to help construct adequate coverage for each client’s needs.

Wiley’s daily responsibilities include creating ratings, drafting quotes, and reviewing environmental documents to help identify potential risks. Going into the summer, he relied on the knowledge he gained from his time at Lafayette as a strong foundation to help him transition into the insurance industry.

Wiley is an Economics & Policy Studies double major at Lafayette, and currently serves as the Alumni Relations Chair for DKE.

This summer Brother Sam Todd ’15 is interning at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT for the the second year in a row. As a senior Mechanical Engineering major, Sam was placed in the Weapons & Mechanical Systems department that is working on the Block V of the VIRGINIA Class Naval Submarines.

Sam’s department is directly responsible for various mechanical components on the new VIRGINIA Payload Module, which was contracted to vastly increase the payload capacity of the attack class submarines. Sam’s main task is to research and design various options for position indication switches that will be integral to the missile tube muzzle hatch operation. Additionally, Sam will begin his second semester as DKE’s Director of Service and Philanthropy in the fall.

This summer Brother Kevin Seery ’15 is interning at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in his hometown of Florham Park, NJ. Seery has worked as a Seasonal Client Associate under the LE Group, aiding in the research and analysis of select mutual funds, hedge funds, bonds, ETFs, and other investments.

Seery has also worked in conjunction with Senior Management to create specific asset allocation templates for varying investor profiles. He has spent time collecting and calculating the data to compile possible returns, standard deviation, and dividend returns for each risk profile.

Seery has benefitted from a wide exposure in the various segments of the Wealth Management Process. As an Economics major pursuing a Certificate in Financial Policy and Analysis, Seery looks to land a job in finance after graduating from Lafayette.

Brother Seery is currently the secretary for DKE, and has also served as both Recruitment and Social Chairman.

This summer, Brother Zachary Lizmi ’15 has worked as a Project Finance intern at Kroll Bond Rating Agency in New York. Lizmi has collaborated with financial analysts to help assess strengths and risks of energy industry firms.

Lizmi’s day to day consists of evaluating financial statements, compiling metrics and ratios in order to summarize the financial statements, and analyzing key components of particular sectors within the energy industry such as petroleum, natural gas, and renewable energy.

Lizmi is an Economics and Government & Law double major at Lafayette, and credits his knowledge learned in Financial Theory (Econ 319) to his success at KBRA.

Brother David Root ’15 is working for Berks Ridge Company Enterprises this summer. Berks Ridge is a general contractor in Harleysville, PA, about 40 miles south of Lafayette’s campus.

The mechanical engineering major has worked on submittal reviews, take-offs, and permitting for a $20 million senior living facility in Randolph, NJ. Root has also contributed by doing site visits with subcontractors and to oversee job site progress.

In the fall, Brother Root will act as the house resident advisor for DKE. Root will also begin his senior season as a member of the Lafayette varsity soccer team.
