Portfolio 3:

Introduction:

Choosing a topic to write about for this portfolio was an easy choice for me since I have been quite mesmerized by the topic of ebooks since first learning about their pros and cons a while back. I knew that I wanted to use this portfolio to discuss the aspect of ebooks that I find most repulsive–the fact that it infringes on reader privacy. Being a huge fan of George Orwell’s novel 1984, I immediately thought of his book when hearing of the tracking abilities ebooks possess. It seemed almost unreal to me that book industries would be able to possess such Big-Brother-like qualities, and I felt as if I was immediately thrown into Orwell’s novel after learning this. That being said, I used my portfolio to discuss these privacy issues as well as to discuss how these privacy infringements can destroy an individual’s reading experience as a whole.

Portfolio 2:

Introduction:

Going into this assignment, I was a little uneasy about producing a group essay. I’ve heard many stories about my peers completing group essays before, but never actually had the chance to complete one myself. It was a very new experience to me and I felt it was much less stressful than completing an individual essay. One main focus of my group’s essay was the Copyright Alert System, which I was happy to learn much more about through this assignment. I can now confidently say that I am very familiar with the government’s take on copyright and its future plans for dealing with copyright infringement, something that I had not known nearly as well before the start of this assignment. My group’s essay explores various pros and cons of the Copyright Alert System and discusses the system from the point of view of several authors.

In regard to the blog posts, each of my posts deals with copyright and ties copyright into modern day events or issues.

Portfolio 1:

Introduction:

Before doing research on copyright and being able to discuss what it entails in class, I did not have a very good understanding of what it was. In fact, just seeing the word “copyright” used to make me nervous. It was a word I associated with intricacy and confusion, mainly because it applies to so many different forms of technology and creative pieces. After realizing this and using it to understand why I had always seen copyright as being such an intimidating topic of discussion, I decided to base my essay off of these realizations by posing the following question: Would copyright be less complex if it were to have originated during the present era of technology rather than before it? Or would it be just as confusing as it is today?

The three blog posts that are linked below deal with similar questions I have asked myself throughout this course. Each blog posts addresses a different issue I have discovered relevant to this course and either the process of copyright or writing as a whole.
