The brown bag today was incredibly interesting and insightful. I
never thought about what was on the TV when filming or what song could be heard
in the background. There are so many elements that I feel we as viewers take for
granted. The clip we saw about the Texas Two Step and getting permission to show
that was also interesting. It was a group of people dancing but contacting the
original creator was necessary in order to get permission and show the clip.
It is interesting to think about how simply what is going on in the background whether it is a video or music could potential make or break a film because the licensing fees could be so expensive.
I also agree that the brownbag was extremely interesting and I learned many things from it that I had not previously been aware of. I had never really thought about needing to get permission for copyrighted music in the background of a film. Now that I know even that has to be granted permission to use, I am shocked at how complicated the process of creating a film is.
