I watched The Making of a Renaissance Book for my lab assignment. The media that stood out to me the most as I watched the video was the music. It seemed to correspond to the relative pace of the work. It also always seemed to be playing as to represent the constant work required to make a book during this time.
The video, like the archives and EPI, was interesting because it created a detailed image of the process. Before watching the video, I pictured how the process looked based on Howard’s book, but the video gave a much more accurate image of the work and detail required to make a book.
The work and detail required to make a book are exquisite, and is definitely not appreciated as much by today’s society in our easy access to information. Back then, information was so highly valued that books were amongst some of the most coveted objects. Nowadays, because information is so readily available, nobody cares much about books anymore.
I too watched this video, and I found the music to be irritating. I agree that it’s constant playing seemed to represent the constant work required to make a book. It was one thing to read about the process but to see it happening really showed how tedious it is.
After your comments on the music, I rewatched the video because I actually did not really notice the music. I think that perhaps I found the music extremely annoying so I just tuned it out. However after listening, I do think the music represents the pace of work extremely well.
