This was without a doubt the most shocking and powerful film that we viewed all semester. The way that they showed the way the victims’ point of view, and the way all of these cases that came up somehow nothing ever managed to get done. This is a real problem that is continuing to grow nationwide. All of these presidents at these various universities and colleges that choice to ignore these extremely serious problems are just wrong. I cannot imagine having a student come into my office crying their eyes out, telling me that they were raped and doing absolutely nothing about it. I would not be able to look myself in the mirror if knew that it was in control to help these people and did nothing about. I really liked how at the end of the film they showed the growth of support that this group of victims was gaining from each school that they went to.
I definitely agree that this was the best documentary we have seen all semester. I’m going to play devil’s advocate for one minute. Think of Lafayette and the reputation it holds. Lafayette College is an academically fantastic college and our Patriot League has been doing extremely well – and we want future students to come to our school so that is what incoming students hear when they take a tour of the school. However, and sadly, many incoming freshman of either sex do not know that MANY schools across America have this problem. This has been going on forever – but people are just starting to recognize it- which extremely unfortunate.
If you took a tour of Lafayette and had the tour guide say something like “well we’ve had a couple reports on sexual assault and rape” do you really think anyone would consider going to Lafayette after hearing that?
I think that the presidents of the school are wrong when they ignore these horrible cases that can ruin a person’s life forever. However, I believe that they want to protect the school as well.
ALTHOUGH I 100% AGREE WITH YOU, I hope you can understand the other side of the situation. This is an extremely hard discussion for all of us to talk about.
