Media and Learning

Media is a valuable resource that allows people to access information on a topic in an instant. It has created an entire new genre of research that I have been taught to use since I began elementary school.

With this new technology comes a lot of negative sideeffects including lack of activity amongst young children, loss of connection during in person interactions, rude behavior and many more social issues.

While media and the internet have many pros and cons, it is necessary that we continue to evolve with technology and learned how to use it to its full advantages whilst being aware of the negative social effects it has on people.

  1. This is a great point. Technology is so prevalent in our society and has allowed society to grow, expand, and look into different areas that we wouldn’t be able to without technology. But, I think it is very important, as you said, that we evolve with technology and media. There are so many great aspects technology brings to our world, but there are also some very serious, negative effects it has on people. I think it is important for us to find a perfect harmony between the positive and negative effects and intelligently use this tool.

  2. I agree that schools can use the new technology as a powerful learning tool. You can get copious amounts of information by the click of a button and really get the student to learn about many different topics. However, I feel schools should really be strict in their use of the technology and not allow the kids to play games and interact through the devices. Instead they should have to interact and play with each other. It is important that from a young age they first learn how to interact in person before they begin using their devices non-stop. For many people my age it can be hard to get off the phone and socially interact sometimes. Imagine this for young kids that don’t know any different than to use their devices as a form of social contact.
