Off To A Great Start

Returning House Scholars, Hannah Weaver ’14 & Kyle Tucker ’14, kicked off our semester with the first discussion September 1. Their topic was on personal growth. Specifically, Hannah and Kyle asked everyone to think about the following:

“How did you grow and change this past summer or year? What were the agents of change? Were they influenced by internal or external factors? This should be an opportunity for everyone to become familiar with each other as we welcome in the new members.

Here are a few videos we found inspiring. They’re stories of people who live fulfilled lives. They talk about important moments of change during college or later in life that helped to defined who they are: Photographer Jimmy Chin, Steve Jobs, Ultra-Runner Ryan Sandes, and Bike Maker Ezra Caldwell“.

Our second discussion on September 8 was hosted by long time discussion attendee and guest Brent Horowitz ’14. Brent is a double major in Biology and Theater and framed his discussion on “the role art plays in our world, particularly western society”. He asked everyone to read ahead of time: STEM to STEAM: The Importance of Arts in Science and The Arts’ Key Role in Our Society.

This Sunday a new House Scholar, Hollis Miller ’15 , and a returning House Scholar, Tia Seibold ’14, will partner up to lead discussion. Look for their topic later this week.
