Navy Takes Lafayette

This past Friday March 7th I attended the Navy v Lafayette Game at Navy Marine Corps Memorial stadium in Annapolis, MD. Lafayette is my home team and friends of mine play for Navy. Needless to say, my hands were tied with who to root for. Because of this, I made an effort to analyze the game with as little bias as possible. I did my best not to favor either team. But, with such a clear and significant overall team effort, it was clear that Navy deserved some credit for Fridays win.

Lafayette looked strong in the first half holding the Mids to a 4-2 lead. They had good ball control and made it clear to Navy that the Leopards were not going down easily. But, characteristic of the Leopards defense lately, the second half was a blood bath. The Mids goalie John Connors was a powerful player on the field with 13 saves, 6 in the third quarter alone. Navys defense was nearly flawless and with Jones, Hanszche and the other Mids attack men on fire, Lafayette did not stand a chance as Navy stepped up its lead to 7-2 in the 3rd. With Brady Dove at the X for Navy, winning 12 of 17 draws, the Mids had possession for a majority of the game. Lafayette Goalie Jake Hyatt made a solid effort to combat the Navy offense but ultimately allowed 11 goals and Lafayette fell to (1-4) while Navy jumped to (3-2.)

Powerhouse offensive teams like Navy are part of what makes the Patriot League one of the toughest circuits to play in.

Keep up the good work and better luck next time Lafayette.
