Zaireeka

On March 6th of this year, the McKelvy House hosted a listening party for The Flaming Lips’ 1997 album: Zaireeka. Designed to be played using four different discs in four different stereos, Zaireeka is a unique listening experience as only the Lips can provide. With experiments in high/low tones in How Will We Know? (Futuristic Crashendos) and the bizarre synchronizations, it is not the most accessible album (Pitchfork rating of 0.0), but it is fascinating to hear. After some pizza, and with a stereo at each side of the room, McKelvy students and guests were surrounded by sound for what they all agreed was an enjoyable night. Afterwards a handful of students listened to Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (2002), also by The Flaming Lips.
