An Ode to McKelvy, by Ellis Finger
This capped off Ellis’s toast to McKelvy last Friday, and I repeated it for the crowd at the Marquis Founders Dinner:
An Ode to McKelvy
Leopards forever, far from the quad
Skeptical and questioning, with a challenging nod
To roads less traveled, to ideas so bold,
To vistas unknown, to thresholds of gold.
You gave us our soul and brightened our halls
The life of the mind always enthralls
When McKelvyites gather with jubilant calls
For discourse, debate, intellectual brawls,
Of such vigorous force that quickly installs
A beguiling glow from within these walls
And a quality of self that rises, not falls.
So settle your thoughts and raise your glass,
Muster your pride and show some class
Summon your tales and cherish your past
Reach to your memories and hold them fast
Salute these halls where you had such a blast
And say a toast to McKelvy: long may she last!
