McKelvy goes French

On March 26th, McKelvy House hosted its first French film and food night. In defiance of winter, I (Megan) decided to cook Ratatouille, a hodgepodge of a vegetable stew traditionally made in late summer. Also on the menu were crêpes with fruit and ice cream, cheese and bread, and various pâtés for sampling. With the generous help of Lauren, Colin, and Professor Lee, I managed to finish some furious last-minute cooking before everyone got too hungry. After filling up our plates, we settled in to watch The Double Life of Véronique, a film that is as unnerving as it is frustratingly open-ended. Half in Polish, half in French, the film explores themes of fate and determinism, and includes some pretty creepy-looking puppets. Afterwards, everyone had a chance to meet some of the future McKelvyites who, along with a few members of the French club, joined in the festivities.
