In my life I have had many cultural exchange experiences with many different people from a plethora of countries. For example, the people I have met when I have traveled to the Caribbean or Greece have been amazing experiences. Meeting new people from different countries and cultures gives you a different perspective on life. As these people have different thoughts, ideas, cloths, and ideas. I have always gone out of my way to meet this people becasie I believe it is good to meet as my new people from different places as possible. With this being said my most impactful experience of meeting someone from a different country was in America. This happened around halfway through grade seven, when I foreign kid from China named James Peng came into my art class. The teacher introduced him to the class and talked about how he was from south china and he has moved to America and willl be with us in the class the rest of the year. When she was finished speaking there was a open seat next to me and James sat there. For the first class we were getting to know each other, which was interesting as he did not speak full English and had a very hard Chineses accent. We learned to communicate there hand motions or exhaling what words meant. I asked where he is from, how far was the travel, how he likes America, and if he likes school. He was always very honest and funny for a new student. I always remembered his big smile when making jokes. As we got closer I would ask what types of things he would do in china such as the food he would eat like dumplings were his favorite. Also we would talk about basketball as that was his favorite sport, and his favorite player was Yao Ming who was a famous Chinese basketball player. One very memorable experience with James was one day in Art class we were doing signatures and he wrote his name in Chinese. I found this very fascinating with the advanced letters and cool designs each individual latter has. I then proceeded to ask him to do my name which was very cool because I had never seen my name in a different language before. Also, I then learned how to do it myself and would show my parents which they found very cool. Additionally, it was amazing to see James grow in his American throughout the year, because when he first arrived he would carry a translator book around to understand and learn what people where saying. But, by the end of middle school he was fully fluent and learned pretty much all of the language. I was always very impressed by how he learned so fast and made many connections. I learned a lot from James for example about Chinese culture and cuisine. To add, about how traveling far distance is and how hard it is to be so far from relatives as they all still lived in china. Additnally I learned how different American culture is which gave me a great perspective on how we are all different in some way. Lastly, I have met many people from different countries but James was the only one I can say was a close friend.
