Who is Howard Schultz?
Who is billionaire, author, investor and CEO of Starbucks Howard Schultz? Well he was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1953. Son of ex-United States Army trooper and truck driver Fred Schultz and Elaine Schultz. Howard and his two siblings did not grow up with much. He had a love a sports and was quite talented himself. He accepted a football scholarship to Northern Michigan University making him the first in his family to attend college. After a brief stint as a salesman for Xerox. Which he notes taught him to accept rejection. He became a general manager for Swedish drip coffee manufacturer Hammarplast. He was very interested in one of their clients, a coffee bean shopped named Starbucks and expressed interest in working for them. He loved their passion about roasting high-quality coffee. He was sent on business trip to Italy for the company. This is where he discovered and became enamored with the Italian coffee bar. He felt it could also be implemented in the States and pitched the idea to his boss who did not agree. This is where the Starbucks we know today sprung from. He left the company bought the name and opened the first Starbucks café in Seattle Oregon. He served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1987-2000 and then again from 2008-2017 where he then switched from CEO to executive chairman.
