For Mental Health Awareness Week, Active Minds sponsored a Suicide Prevention Panel on Thursday, October 8th in Kirby 104. Over fifty people watched an excerpt of Eric Steel’s The Bridge before participating in an open discussion with the families of three young men who died by suicide. Dr. Karen Forbes, director of the Lafayette Counseling Center and adviser to Active Minds also presented.
Andrew Loiacano, one of the speakers at the event, created this handout for students with information about suicide prevention, helping and understanding a suicide survivor, and being happy and successful in your own life.
As a result of the donations made at the Second Annual Stomp Out Stigma Run, Active Minds was able to make three $38 donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of the three young men whose families spoke at the event.
Thank you again to all of our speakers who generously devoted their time and opened up to help continue to change the conversation about mental health at Lafayette.
