changing the conversation about mental health on campus
- Remember there is no “right way” to cope
- Understand that people experience a variety of emotions and there may be emotional highs and lows
- Give yourself permission to grieve and express your emotions
- Be patient with yourself – recognize it takes time to heal
- Seek support from friends, family, and loved ones
- Take care of yourself – eat well-balanced meals, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly
- Write down your thoughts – especially if you are having trouble sleeping
- Do not attempt to numb emotional pain with drugs or alcohol
- Try to avoid making major life decisions or taking on new responsibilities
- Create ways of remembering your loved one
