National Organization

National Tau Beta Pi Organization

Founded by Lehigh University in 1885, Tau Beta Pi is the second oldest honor society in the nation. Tau Beta Pi honors engineering students who exemplify outstanding scholarship and character in their field. The national organization is comprised of over 250 chapters and 40 alumni chapters, which together are divided into 16 districts across the United States.

The symbol of Tau Beta Pi is the bent, modeled after that of a trestle bridge. Just as the bent of a trestle gives the structure integrity, the bent of Tau Beta Pi represents members’ integrity in the field of engineering. Upon initiation into the society, each member is honored with a precast bent as a reminder of the organization’s core values and creed of “integrity and excellence in engineering.”
