Historic New Orleans Collection

October 29, 2019

410 Chartres Street New Orleans, LA 70130

The Historic New Orleans Collection will host historian Donald L. Miller, in collaboration with The National WWII Museum, as he discusses his new book Vicksburg: Grant’s Campaign that Broke the Confederacy (Simon & Schuster, 2019), at the Williams Research Center on Tuesday, October 29. Vicksburg delves into the battle that defined control of the Mississippi River during the Civil War, sparked a social revolution that transformed the racial order of Louisiana and Mississippi, and handed commander Ulysses S. Grant a career-defining victory.

This program will be readers’ first opportunity to purchase the book, which has been well received by Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Publishers Weekly, and more. John M. Barry, author of Rising Tide, praised the title, saying “This is a magnificent book, certainly one of the very best ever written about the Civil War. It has breadth and depth, and it is written in a way that makes the reader truly understand not only the battle and siege of Vicksburg, not only the Civil War, but war itself.”

Following the presentation, Miller will sign copies of the book, which retails for $35. This program is free and open to the public, and reservations are required.  Register online, or call (504) 598-7146 to get your free ticket. All unclaimed tickets will be released to the general public at 5:55 p.m.
