Abstract: The main goal of this Senior Capstone Final Project was to find a method to better integrate the Study Abroad experience of the Bachelor of Science Engineering students with the remainder of their education at Lafayette. Far too often, engineering students spend a semester abroad but do not fully grasp and appreciate the value of the experience as a whole. The project’s final product consists of a lesson plan and comprehensive packet of information for a workshop to be given. This workshop is to be given by senior Engineering Studies Capstone students to the sophomore engineers prior to their departure for Bremen, Germany or Madrid, Spain. The objective of this seminar is to expose the students to the importance of understanding the various contexts that could affect engineering projects in these two countries, and to open their minds to the similarities and differences of engineering practice compared to those of the United States. Once the students complete this workshop and spend their semester abroad, they will be better suited and more apt to reintegrate what they have learned back into the Lafayette community and enhance not only their engineering education, but those of their peers as well. If this workshop proves to be successful, future Capstone groups will hopefully be able to expand the idea to encompass all Lafayette study abroad programs.
