Abstract:

The vision of this project is to place the Lafayette Community Garden in the context of a larger system of food production in Easton, Pennsylvania.  Research conducted on the Lafayette Community Garden as well as other food producers in the Easton area allows us to examine the correlation between the location of healthy food sources and the general availability of healthy food options in the West Ward.  Our group has also compared the number of available grocery stores to gardens in various neighborhoods, with a specific focus on highly urbanized locations.  The major questions we have addressed are: What are the main flaws in the food production and distribution systems in Easton, Pennsylvania and what role does the Lafayette Community Garden specifically take in those systems?
