The Lafayette College Equestrian Team, founded in 2003, belongs to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). Lafayette is a member of Zone 3 Region 4. Our competitors include Bloomsburg University, Cedar Crest College, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Princeton University, Rutgers University, and University of Scranton. In the past Lafayette has sent riders to Regionals, Zones, and Nationals for post-season competitions in addition to the 10 regular season competitions. The competitions are spread between the fall and spring semesters.
“Sportsmanship, team spirit, safety and fun have remained the objectives of this organization since its inception.“-Robert E. Cacchione, IHSA Exec. Dir. and Founder.
“It’s a great option for people once they are out of the juniors…because you’ve got to catch-ride. There’s an excellent standard.“-US show jumping coach and Olympian, George Morris
Competitions are split up into levels: Open, Intermediate, Novice, Walk-Trot-Canter, and Walk-Trot. Each class has equal weight towards the team’s total, so the most beginner rider is as valuable to the team as the most experienced.
