Fuel Economy and Finance

•Each year the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy releases a pamphlet called the Fuel Economy Guide.  This graph above is from the 2014 pamphlet and it provides the fuel economy and annual cost ranges for the vehicles in each class so you can see where a given vehicle’s fuel economy and cost fall within its class.  Combined city and highway MPG estimates were used (assuming 55% city and 45% highway driving).  Annual fuel costs assume you travel 15,000 miles each year and fuel costs $3.68/gallon for regular unleaded and $4.01/ gallon for premium, $3.97 for diesel, and $0.12/kWh for electricity.
