  1. You did a great job at providing the necessary context for solar energy. Not only did you provide the technological history behind solar power, but you explained in detail the social, economical, and even the environmental history as well. All of this information really put the topic into its necessary perspective. This information is also extremely relevant to problems that exist today and the slidecast did a great job of making me feel aware, such as as the depletion of fossil fuels and the growing world population.

The transition from context to the main topic of discussing solar around the 2:45 mark happens seamlessly and is well timed in the presentation. You did a good job of discussing the alternatives to solar energy and rationally explaining why you think solar is the better choice. This part of the slidecast felt as if you were trying to sell solar energy as a product to the listener, which is not exactly a bad thing since your arguments were well backed up.

  2. This was a well told analysis of solar power in the United States. Something that separates this presentation is the way that context is used. In this presentation, social context and economic context were used in tandem to explain the prevalence of solar panels. I like your use of those because it makes the presentation more practical. You speculate less about why people want the solar panels from historical mindsets and more what would make them profitable and what it takes against other energy alternatives for society as a whole to make the switch.

Initially I though this presentation was going to go a little overboard on the technical and economic aspects, but really those are what need to be talked about in regard to energy, because those are what the usage of energy comes down to. It is less about just marketing the product and more about making it a superior form of energy.

Overall, a very well thought out presentation, I liked it a lot.

  3. I really enjoyed this slide cast. I think you did a really good job at balancing the cultural and social, economic, and political aspects of solar power. I think you did a really good job at mentioning just the right amount of history that lead up to the growing popularity of new energy sources because without understanding how coal dominated the energy industry for so long it is harder to put how necessary solar energy is into perspective. I really liked how you not only covered those aspects but actually explain the technical aspects of solar power. I was also tasked with discussing renewable energy sources and I wish that I could have added more technical information about how it works.

My only criticism is that your voice was extremely quiet during some of the slides but overall, really good job!
