  1. This was a very comprehensive presentation, and it goes into a lot of detail regarding the Space Race. It paints a good picture for why space and rockets were such a topic of interest during the period. Not only did you touch upon rockets, but also colonization of the moon and other planets, which was good as it encompasses key features in your main figure. It would have been interesting to see other depictions of space travel and extraterrestrial colonization to tie together the picture you’re forming based on the values during this period. Whether space travel was prominent in various forms of media and how it was portrayed could further support the idea your presenting.
I really liked your use of video and audio throughout the presentation, as I think it was used effectively to display important ideas. I also thought it was really good how you talked about other nuclear applications, so that the audience can get an idea for just how much potential nuclear energy provided. It was also interesting to learn that plans to build rockets with the intention of colonizing the moon and other planets are actually in action today.

  2. I really enjoyed this slidecast, especially since I also talked a lot about the space race in my own project it was cool to be able to compare notes a bit. Furthermore, the colonizing of the moon was also a big theme in my project so it’s clear from watching multiple of these that this was really important at the time.
I also really liked your selection and use of images throughout the slidecast. You used a lot of different types of images which I really think added to the presentation as a whole, especially including the video clip of a rocket taking off.

I think you maybe could have taken it a bit more into the future as to what happened after the 1970s, but you gave so much historical background I think it makes up for it! Great work!

  3. Comparing the positive and negative views on nuclear technology provided excellent contrast for different views of technology at the time. It was also fascinating to note that the visions of a moon base came before humans even made it to space. That shows that society in the 1950s was very confident that the technological improvements of the times would continue to increase in the coming years. Your slides explained this well.
My one critique of this slide cast is that it focused on too many events that occurred after the image was created. While the space race was incredibly interesting, sending a man to the moon in 1969 could not have affected the artist creating the image in 1959. Some stronger focus on the innovations in flight, space, and nuclear technologies throughout the 1950s probably would have fit better for the image you chose.

  4. My favorite part of the presentation was the incorporation of the videos in the middle of the slidecast. I felt like it broke up the stream of pictures very well and provided a nice visual aid to your discussion. Your slidecast was well planned and provided a comprehensive summary the space race’s impact on nuclear rockets. Your bright and colorful graphics were refreshing and pleasing after viewing lots of black and white images for the presentations set farther back in history. I was the most interested in learning that Space X is planning on colonizing the moon with a giant rocket.
As far as improvements for next time I might suggest narrowing the scope of your focus slightly. For example, specifically discuss more nuclear rockets instead of spending so much time on the space race, or maybe just make your topic the space race. Regardless, I still loved learning about the space race and think you did great work.
