January 18, 2015: Sierra Negra Volcano Hike
An early start brought us to the flanks of Sierra Negra Volcano. Starting around 7:45am we hiked up to the rim of the caldera of Sierra Negra volcano. We then continued out to the north rift zone where we were able to observe many of the vents from the 2008 eruption…and we hike to the top of the parasitic cone Volcan Chico. The late afternoon involved a walk to the tortoise breeding center and the flamingo pond.
