January 11 – Guagua Pichincha volcano and exam #2
Today we tried to get up to the summit of Guagua Pichincha volcano. Unfortunately almost 5 miles from the start of the hike the road was blocked by a small debris slump and on a single lane dirt road that is all it took to stop us from our objective (even having switched into pickup track and a cattle truck)…a five mile hike with 2200 feet of elevation (13,300 to 15,500) was too much in the time (and probably energy) that we had available. The second exam for the course was given in the evening in the breakfast room of our hotel.
