Introduction
Our project was to create an alarm clock which could wake the user up in a light stage of sleep by using EEG signals from the user’s head.
The problem we attempted to solve in this project was that students often have a very difficult time waking up feeling refreshed and well rested for their morning classes. We attributed the general sleepiness of students in their morning classes to the fact that they had woken up so close to the start of their class, had not woken up in a light sleep state, and thus have not given their brain ample time to start up. Our system seeks to detect when a user is in a ‘waking’ state and then wake them up so that their brain has less work to do starting up once they do wake up.
