WHAT MAKES LAFAYETTE A GREAT PLACE TO WORK

The topic of discussion oriented around how entities are recognized for being particularly good places to work, what in particular is appreciated by administrators as contributing to making Lafayette a great place to work and, finally, what can we be doing differently to make Lafayette an even better place to work (for ourselves and for our fellow staff members).  Adam Stauffer of College Relations and Development  and Chris Ruebeck, professor in the Economics Department led the lively session.

Among some of the items mentioned by administrators as things at the College they appreciate are:

  • Tremendous resources available through the College
  • Collaborative and supportive co-workers
  • Engagement and generosity of alumni and other supporters
  • Opportunities for professional growth and to impact the lives of others
  • Extra vacation days allowed between Christmas and New Year’s
  • The retirement plan
  • The healthcare benefits
  • Sense of job security
  • Tuition benefits
  • Efforts with regard to environmental responsibility as it applies to construction/renovation projects
  • Accessibility of President Weiss
  • Early Learning Center
  • Recreation center access
  • Budget Advisory Committee and other forums that facilitate input from administrators
  • Cultural performance, athletic event and educational lecture opportunities
  • Free parking
  • College’s involvement in improving the Easton community generally
  • Two-week training program offered within College Relations and Development division
  • Extension of benefits to domestic partners
  • Beautiful campus

Based on the comments about elements which some would like to see improved, the College will begin to focus on:

  • Professional development opportunities;
  • Graduate level tuition benefits;
  • Expanded new employee orientation programs; and
  • Formalization of a campus wellness program
