This week, TBP-PAE hosted a brown bag lunch talk as part of National Engineers Week, entitled “Preparing for Grad School – How to Become a Top Tier Applicant.” Senior TBP member Ryan Coulson (’18) shared his experience applying to graduate school programs to a group of sophomore and junior engineering students. Ryan shared what he learned after having recently applied (and been accepted!) to graduate school. Some topics Ryan discussed include when to start the graduate school search, how to narrow down programs, which exams you need to take, and how to make your application stand out.

112th National Convention
This past week, Tau Beta Pi held its 112th National Convention in Dearborn, Michigan. Michigan Gamma (MI G) and the Ann Arbor Area Alumni Chapter (AAAAC) served as hosts of the Convention. Delegates from across the county and abroad came together to conduct business regarding the direction of the organization for the upcoming year. Important business was passed to simplify the organization’s constitution and bylaws, provide accommodations during initiation for candidates with disabilities, and kickstart an effort to reconstruct the Association’s website and branding. A new chapter, Oregon Delta, was officially accepted into the Association, and its first member was initiated before the entire Convention. In addition, three new Executive Councillors were elected into the organization.
As Chair of the Resolutions Committee, PA-E President and voting delegate Laura Strang presented the committee’s final report to the Convention at the closing business meeting. PA-E participated in important idea exchange efforts through District meetings and Interactive Chapter Exchange (ICE) sessions. Check out photos of the Convention below! For more information about the Convention, visit this site.
Also be sure to check out the Resolutions Committee skit, presented at the fourth business meeting. (The Mario Kart skit at time 9:55 in the video is especially funny!) Watch on YouTube HERE.
PA-E thanks everyone who made the 112th Convention a success! We are looking forward to more active participation at next year’s Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Historical TBP Documents Uncovered
In the fall of 2016, chapter president Michael Bennett discovered valuable documents pertaining to TBP records collecting dust in a storage closet in Acopian. He found a roll book with signatures of newly initiated members dating back to when the chapter first began in 1921. Along with these signatures, Michael also uncovered founding documents and meeting minutes from when the chapter was first formed. Michael officially handed the documents over to the College Archives earlier this month so they could be properly stored.
