The 2010 Honduras Team

Fernando Zuniga

I am a 6th year Civil Engineering major at UNAH-VS in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, a warm place which is also my hometown. Having spent my whole life living here it has always shocked me how abysmal the life conditions gap between our own people can get within walking distance. So an impulse shook me and made me wonder if there was a single big or small thing we could do for these people on the less favored side of these huge pendulum I grew up in. I have no idea if it was me who found out about Water For People-Lafayette College IRES project or if it was them who somehow actually heard my thoughts, but either way, I believe it’s a great opportunity to start learning and working on how to get this abysmal gap closer together, serve and educate our people, use our toolbox given at school by creating, designing, improving or simply cooperating on this difference making matter. Water availability and sanitation solutions may very well act as the foundations of a real life changing component for people that are, just as I was, very much in need of a starting point for their dreams.

Diana Enamorado

Hello everyone! My name is Diana Carolina Enamorado Pineda. I’m 22 years old, I live in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, I’m the youngest of three kids, I’m catholic, and I’m currently graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering. I’m totally psyched about being able to pursue this opportunity at Lafayette. I did my internship at the Water for People-Honduras offices and absolutely loved the experience! After my internship I’m even more in love with my people and even more eager to to serve and assist them as much as I possibly can…

Carmen Elena Martinez

Hi, My name is Carmen Elena Martinez, and I’m from Tegucigalpa which is the Capital City of Honduras CA. I am currently living in San Pedro Sula, Cortes. I am a 5 year student studying Civil Engineering at UNAH-VS (Autonomous University of Honduras in Sula Valley). I hope to finish my credits in the next year and do my practice in sanitation and wastewater management. I have to thank God, first of all for giving me this amazing chance, and also WFP-Honduras and Lafayette College, for helping me see that there is more to my country than the reality we see in the cities; there’s poverty and cruel conditions that the people live in the villages or far populations. Us reaching out there gives them the possibility of living a better life, which is a dream come true. Finally, I hope to keep the friendship that we started in Honduras with all the members of this Project.
