About
Green Move Out: A campus-wide sustainability and community service effort where students recycle their unused or gently used household items by donating them to local organizations.
WHAT: Any of the following items can be donated:
- Comforters, blankets, bedding and towels
- Household cleaning items
- Lamps, fans, small appliances and furniture
- Coats and clothing
- Unopened, non-perishable food items
- Vases, glassware and cookware
- Books and school supplies
WHEN: The collection is conducted from the beginning of finals week through graduation weekend.
WHERE: A truck will be stationed at various locations and times for students to bring donations to. Boxes will be placed on the front porches of off-campus residences.
HOW: Students simply drop their items in a box labeled “Green Move Out” in their residence hall or bring them to the truck as they are moving out.
WHO: Student volunteers and employees work together during shifts to sort items. Employees drive trucks to the appropriate locations to deliver the goods and student volunteers help facilitate the whole process.
WHY: Before Green Move Out, Lafayette students tossed all their unwanted food, clothing, furniture, books and other items into the trash, which was then sent to landfills. Donating to Green Move Out is much more sustainable – it’s the right thing to do!
