New Umphrey’s McGee Album to Be Released on Own Record Label

Even with their impressive touring schedule, Umphrey’s McGee has still found time to record music in the studio. Their new record, entitled Similar Skin, is due out on June 10. The news of this release coincides with the bands announcement that they will be starting their own record label, Nothing Too Fancy Music. As such, their new record will be the first album to be released under the new label. So far this is the only announced release and Umphrey’s McGee are the only band that have been signed to the label.

The album will included 11 songs, some of which have already been made a part of the band’s live repertoire. As the press release for the new album states, “the band decided to forgo some of the dense productions of the past and create a work that includes more concise tracks filled with addictive melodies and memorable choruses.” Does this mean a change in the improgers’ sound? Possibly, but Umphrey’s McGee are known and celebrated for their diverse experimentation and are constantly striving for new sounds on stage and in the studio.

The band will spend the next four months on the road, and have a string of festival dates lined up for the summer. This includes performances at Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes, SummerCamp and the band’s seventh appearance at Bonnaroo.
