First Single From moe.’s Upcoming Album Released

Last week the public finally got a hint as to what  moe.’s upcoming album, No Guts, No Glory, will sound like. The video to the album’s first single “Blond Hair And Blue Eyes” was premiered on Guitar World.com last Wednesday. The track is a relatively straightforward love song to a girl with, you guessed it, blond hair and blue eyes. However, it has some of moe.’s typical humor and sense of fun. “Drop to your knees and she will punch out your lights”, Rob Derhark sings with enthusiasm. It is a joyous song, but as the last line reveals there is a tinge of regret to it.

An interesting touch are the horns, something not often heard on a moe. album. They give the song an added brightness, and don’t take away from the band at all. It seems Dave Avon has found a way to capture the band well in the studio, and augment their sound as needed. The group sounds full and almost “pop” on the track. This does not sound like your typical moe. song, but in some ways that is a good thing. It doesn’t sound like a song with the purpose of being a live improvisation. It sounds like an actual song that works as it is written. However, if the band decides to jam out the lyrical guitar solo on stage, that will be fine too.

Hopefully the rest of this album finds the band working this well in the studio. No Guts, No Glory is due out on May 27, but the video to “Blond Hair  can be seen below.
