Abstract: This project has two research questions/goals: What is the best Green roof design for the new Williams Arts Center building being constructed in downtown Easton and what is the best way to communicate our Green roof design process to the general public. To answer the first question, our group conducted research consisting of Green roof design literature, scholarly articles on Green roofs, interviews with Green roof nursery owners and meetings with Lafayette College’s Director of Facilities Planning and Construction, Professor Mary Wilford Hunt. To answer the second question, our group created a website that describes the Green roof design process by using our New Williams Art Center Green roof design as a case study. We designed an extensive green roof for a building located in a 6b hardiness zone. The details of our Green roof design can be found in the accompanying memo or on our website (link above). The website is filled with guiding questions, recommendations, sources for Green roof raw materials, and recommended contacts that can answer Green roof questions to help those who want to design their own extensive Green roofs.
