The Electronic Music Studio (EMS) is located in the Williams Center for the Arts and hosted by Lafayette’s Music Department. This facility will provide opportunities for critical inquiry and creative expression through the study, performance, creation, and experience of music. The Music Department currently supports nine ensembles. The EMS will provide access to recording technology for voice as well as acoustic and electronic instruments across a variety of genres. A variety of new technologies, along with a new control room, will significantly enhance a recently installed digital music lab.
The EMS will create opportunities for students to explore both digital and analog technologies. It will allow further musical, production, acoustics, and audio engineering development for students both within and outside of the arts. Anticipated projects include pre- and post-audio production for Music and FAMS students; audio and music scores for application development and web development-design students; live audio recording for sociological and anthropological interviews, study, and podcasts; and audiobook recording and production for the creation of accessible materials.
