THE STRATEGIC PLAN – Our Progress Thus Far and Where We Go from Here

President Weiss reminded the audience about the process utilized in developing the College’s current strategic plan, which was adopted by the Board of Trustees in October, 2007, and the major initiatives that were memorialized in the plan.  He then shared some highlights of what we’ve accomplished thus far, noting that progress has been virtually as expected even though only one year into the plan there was a severe economic recession that had a significant impact on the College’s endowment, we didn’t let that derail us.  That being said, we have not yet achieved all of what we hope to with regard to the strategic plan.  Senior staff, the administrative staff, the faculty and the Board are all going to be involved is re-focusing our efforts moving forward to ensure that our goals are achieved.  In part, we are re-conceptualizing the plan such that it more specifically aligns with outcomes we can use to measure our success.  One of the first steps in that process was having senior staff work on restating the plan’s global objectives, a draft of which were shared at the meeting.  The administrative staff then undertook an interactive exercise whereby they worked with their functional colleagues to brainstorm which programs/activities in their area map to which goals and whether they are (1) completed, (2) underway, or (3) a future opportunity.  The administrative staff’s contributions resulting from the exercise will be shared with senior staff as the process of re-conceptualizing the strategic plan continues over the next few months.
