What can I expect on a QRS shift?
Your crew will be made up of you and another LCEMS member. If you and your partner are starting the Friday 18:00 shift, you will likely meet at the shed and pick up the Bubble. If you are starting a shift in the middle of the weekend, you will meet the previous crew at an alternate location. When crews switch, the radios and the Bubble’s keys will be exchanged. When Public Safety receives a medical emergency call, they will dispatch you. You will arrive to the scene to find the patient and Public Safety. Ensure that the scene is safe then perform a primary and secondary assessment. Once EES arrives to the scene, give them a brief report of the incident and the patient’s condition. Fill out a transfer of care form and sign below. When the scene is clear, your crew may leave.
What should I wear on a QRS shift?
If you are an assistant or EMT, you must wear the LCEMS polo shirt with navy/black tactical pants and black boots. If it is cold outside, you can wear the EES zip-up jacket or the LCEMS job shirt.
Where is the QRS shed?
The QRS shed is located on the ground floor of Markle Parking Deck. It is on the right side of the lot closest to Oechsle Hall.
What can I do while on call when there are no calls?
You and the other crew member can be anywhere on campus, but it is best to be in a central location such as near the main quad so response time is diminished. You can go to the library, dining halls, or a residence hall but you must always be with the other crew member.
What are the responsibilities and expectations of being on a QRS shift?
You are expected to respond to every on-campus medical emergency that you are dispatched to. You must be respectful whilst with the patient and must uphold HIPAA in regards to patient confidentiality. For more information on the responsibilities and expectations, please refer to the QRS protocols.
