PAINTING WITH FLUORESCENT BACTERIA
Use E.coli that can produce fluorescent proteins and design beautiful illustrations on a petri dish! In the process, learn how these bacteria were engineered to make fluorescent proteins of all colors of the rainbow! Colors include blue, turquoise, green, yellow, orange, and various shades of red.

SCIENCE CHILDREN’S BOOKS DESIGNED BY FIRST YEAR WRITING SEMINAR STUDENTS
We have a large and growing collection of children’s books on various STEM topics: Astronomy, Cell Biology, Physics, Ecology, Nutrition, Ecology, and more! We would be happy to visit your elementary classroom and read from our collection! During some Fall semesters, when Anastasia is teaching her First Year Writing Seminar, we are open to working with your class on designing science books on the topics of your students’ current interests!

BIOCHEMISTRY OF PHEROMONES IN TERMITES
Together with the Landis Center at Lafayette College, we carried out a Connected Classrooms Project in Biochemistry II (Spring 2026). Students from Paxinosa Elementary School (5th grade) visited us on campus, learned about the scientific method, and why termites follow a trail of pen ink.
