Timeline

Phase 1: Spring 2015

The KSAT Board of Governance developed and presented the original idea of integrating Lafayette students, faculty and Easton constituents, (local artists, musicians, and the Friends of the Karl Stirner Arts Trail), to develop a musical playground for the Karl Stirner Arts Trail.

Phase 2: Fall 2015

A feasibility study was constructed from the Engineering Studies Capstone course of the Fall 2015 semester at Lafayette College. The study discussed what steps and issues should be addressed when designing and constructing a sustainable musical playground for the Karl Stirner Arts Trail. The study also discusses the benefits that a musical playground would yield to the Easton Community.

Phase 3: Spring 2016

Milestone 1:

The Spring 2016 Sustainable Solutions class of Lafayette College was tasked with 3 objectives: 1) Define the site for the musical playground 2) Develop a digital companion to document the progress of the playground 3) Design the perimeter of the musical playground.

Key Meeting: January 27th, 2016-First class meeting

Milestone 2:

The site for the musical playground was specified to occupy the land located across the paved path from the dog park on the Karl Stirner Arts Trail.IMG_1658

Key Meeting: February 2nd, 2016-First Site visit

Milestone 3:

A chimed fence was determined to be the most appropriate perimeter for the musical playground. The open concept that the fence provides allows the playground area to be framed and clearly allocated, without compromising the open flow of the arts trail.

Key Meeting: February 2nd, 2016-First Site visit

The design plan of the musical playground was finalized and approved by the Friends of the Karl Stirner Arts Trail.

Key Meeting: March 9th, 2016-Meeting with KSAT BoG to present design plans for the perimeter of the  musical playground.

Milestone 5:IMG_2261IMG_2260

Execution of the design plan will be completed by May 2016. This step involves finding and allocating the materials and contractors that will allow for appropriate construction of the playground.

Key Meeting:

Phase 4: Summer 2016-Spring 2017

Construction of the perimeter of the musical playground will take place during the summer of 2016 and potentially the fall of 2016. After the perimeter is constructed the Easton Community will determine the further directions that will be taken, in regards to future development of the playground.
