The Lafayette College Jazz Ensemble performs the best in both traditional and contemporary jazz styles. All interested students are encouraged to audition for this standard format big band (5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, piano, bass, guitar, drums, and percussion). The band explores a wide variety of jazz styles with a strong emphasis on developing individual improvisational skills. Performances occur year-round both on and off campus. In the spring, well-known professional soloists join the ensemble for a special concert. Regular rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 8-10 pm. Students may enroll for one academic credit each semester if they wish (Mus 151). In addition to the big band, small combo participation is also available. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Rick Chamberlain.
Any prospective students interested in Jazz Ensemble, or any other ensemble at Lafayette, should fill out this form.
